چکیده

background: patellar mal tracking is responsible for pain and disability in patellofemoral pain syndrome (pfps). patellar kinesio taping may have different effects on short and long term usage. the aim of this study is to compare the effect of short term and long term patellar kinesio taping in patellar position on women with patellofemoral pain syndrome using magnetic resonance imaging (mri). methods: thirty women with a mean age of 32.2 ± 6.18 years with one year history of pfps participated in this study. all participants provided written, informed consent. mri was taken three times from participant’s patellofemoral joint: 1) without taping, 2) immediately after taping in the first session, 3) after 10 sessions of taping. the effectiveness of the interventions was determined by measuring the patellofemoral congruence angle (pfca), lateral patellofemoral angle (lpfa), and lateral patellar displacement (lpd) on mri images. results: statistical analysis showed that utilizing kinesio taping in short time and after 10 sessions, significantly changed pfca and lpd – except for pfca after 10 sessions. moreover, taping didn’t have any significant effect to alter lpfa. conclusion: in short term, mechanical effects of kinesio taping influenced the patella position but in long term, neuromuscular effects may be more effective than each one separately to alter patella position.

BACKGROUND Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is the most prevalent orthopaedic condition among physically active individuals, contributing to an estimated 30% to 40% of all sports medicine visits. Techniques using Kinesio Tape (KT) have become increasingly popular; however, there has been scant research supporting its use on patients with PFPS. Effects of Patellar Taping on the Patella Position in Presence of Quadriceps Contraction in 20-40 Year-Old Women With Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome Using MRI

Objectives: Patellar maltracking is the main reason for pain and disability in patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Patellar taping can considerably reduce such pain and disability. This study compared the effectiveness of physiotherapy exercises and kinesio taping on the patellar position in women with PFPS (mean age 32.2±1.12 years) by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods: ...

Effects of patellar taping on knee joint proprioception in patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of patellar taping of the proprioceptive status of patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). A total of 32 subjects (18 males, 14 females of age 31.9 +/- 11.2, body mass index 25.8 +/- 5.3) with PFPS were tested for Joint Position Sense (JPS) using a Biodex dynamometer. Outcomes of interest were the absolute error (AE), the variable error ...
